Personal

On the Internet, my name is Mia. I'm 25 years old, currently single, & I am the oldest of three children. My sisters are my best friends.

I'm a grad student, studying education and child psychology. This means that, although I don't ever plan to have kids, I feel qualified to tell you how to raise yours (Kidding! Mostly). I work at a non-profit adult literacy center. I love getting to combine the two things I love most in the world- teaching and computers. I live in a small town in the Bible Belt of the United States. I'm the liberal black sheep of my family, and one of the few geeks who lives around here.

I've dealt with ADD and clinical depression (that's the chemically imbalenced, non-sexy kind) for all of my adolescence and adult life. I may write about that, but I try not to be one of those bloggers. I'm quite grateful and happy that I'm alive, and plan to stay that way for as long as I can. Sylvia Plath and Ernest Hemmingway can bite me.

As everyone with a vanity blog or website knows, the most important thing about you is the music you pirate...er, listen to. I love classic rock, classical music, and mopey indie bands with lead singers who wear skinny jeans and Converse high-tops. If I'm awake, there's usually music blasting from my computer or record player.

I also read a lot and spend way too much money on books. Believe it or not, I actually don't watch that much television. I prefer movies, but my favorite shows are Buffy, The Simpsons, Life on Mars, and Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Random

  • I have an undergraduate degree in Medieval Literature with minors in Comparative Religion and History. I tell people that I was only in these subjects for the money and glamour; sometimes, I'm not sure that they realize I'm being sarcastic.
  • I have a huge weakness for accents, especially English and Welsh.
  • I've lived in the South all my life, but don't have much of a southern accent. The southern drawl tends to creep into certain words, though. Especially when ah want something real bad, darlin'.
  • My goals after grad school include: joining the Peace Corps, writing a trash fantasy novel, really "getting" PHP and CSS, and starting an educational software company aimed at helping children with special needs.
  • I collect records from antique stores. I like the idea that someone else owned my records before me, and has fond memories related to these songs.
  • I can't stand celebrity gossip or women's magazines, and fail to understand how my female friends can read Cosmo without rolling their eyes
  • I don't really like video games that much. To me, playing a video game is like having your friend refuse to tell you the end of an interesting story until you solve a rubrix cube. If there's a story, just TELL ME! Don't make me battle orcs for it!
  • I've been making websites since I was thirteen.
