While a fanlisting strives to unite fans of a certain subject, such as an actor, movie, or musical group, a hatelisting is just the opposite; it is a listing for people who hate something.

"Pro-Ana" Websites
"Pro-Ana" is short for pro-anorexia. On the Internet, there are many websites, forums, and communities that encourage this dangerous eating disorder. Members frequently exchange images of unnaturally thin models or "thinspiration." Some of the posts and articles on these sites include tips for skipping meals, keeping eating disorders a secret from family and friends, and losing a lot of weight over a short period of time.

I created this hatelisting because I think that encouraging people to adopt this kind of body image is despicable. The messages on these sites are constantly about "beauty" and "achieving perfection." As if there's anything beautiful about being malnourished, weak, and miserable. Being "pro-anorexia" makes about as much sense as being "pro-cancer."

I also think that these sites can keep people who suffer from eating disorders from seeking help. They serve as a disincentive for young people, especially teenage girls, to find counseling or treatment.
